Somewhere in the streets of Zobeck…
Clerics from the Dawn Temple of Lada reach out to Gnangren and provide a healing potion and an aid scroll in thanks for letting them know about the Mammonite shrine. It has been dealt with. The robbery victim, actually a minor noble, wishes to reward the party for their assistance, and has requested an audience. The noble, a Dalmas Hawkhide is more involved in mercantile activities than nobility, but he rewards the party with a small pouch of gold and information that his youngest son Toril, is intent on going hunting near the village of Levoca on the edge of the Margreve forest a couple of days north of the city, and would like a couple of guards and company along the way. Dalmas suggests that the party reach out to Toril about this employment opportunity. Gnangren finds Toril and gets the information to bring back to the group.
Ebb receives contact from an agent of the Mouse King, Vozzind Bittermaul, a kobold who she has encountered before. Her request for an audience has been declined for the time being, but the Mouse King sends his regards and a small token of his appreciation – a healing potion – as he has heard that Ebb’s healer friend is a bit fragile. Vozzind also notes that because Dalmas has dealings with the Redcloaks (a rival gang that irritates the Mouse King) that if any ‘accident’ along the way were to result in Toril not returning this act would also be appreciated. Ebb notes this, but does not appear to be terribly pleased with the idea.
Meantime Gnangren purchases some navigation equipment, while Fern also goes shopping but fails to charm a cheaper price for a healing potion out of any of the merchants she interacts with.
Shortly afterwards the party meet up with Toril, a young man who appears genuine to escort him to the Margreve village for some hunting. The journey is fairly uneventful until about halfway through the second day the party encounter a pair of travellers heading in the opposite direction who tell of a strange (and badly smelling) overturned wagon about an hour further up the road, that they warily avoided. Piquing the group’s interest, they exchange pleasantries and move on to discover the wagon.
Indeed, ahead a short distance is what appears to be an upturned wagon, missing some of its wheels, sitting by the side of a partial foul smelling moat. On approaching a little closer a goblin appears on top of the wagon demanding tribute for the Great Dib. A threat of violence is implied should tribute not be forthcoming, though this goblin speaks for, he is not the Great Dib himself.
A brief consultation occurs, upon which violence appears to be solution. Ebb rushes the wagon, leaping across the moat and onto the roof/floor of the wagon to confront the goblin. Gnangren approaches the end facing the party, where a door appears to have been fashioned from the back end of the wagon. Quinn and Fern stay behind with Toril, who has crouched down while unstringing his hunting bow.
A short fight ensues while goblins inside or under the upturned wagon poke spears, fire arrows, and spray flaming oil out of holes in the wagon’s structure before the wagon is set on fire by Fern, and eventually tipped over by Gnangren to float most unceremoniously in the fetid moat. At this point is is seen that there is a tunnel under the wagon leading to a dugout chamber beneath. Dodging a trap Ebony rushes in to confront a small group of goblins, commanded by one who appears to be Dib. Dib tries to escape the fight after it appears he is being bested by the party, but fails to take account of Ebony’s fleetness of foot and is run through as he leaves the tunnels. During the fight Quinn falls to the ground once more, but is stabilised by Fern using her standard priced potion of healing.
A small collection of coins and other tribute is discovered in a panel disguised as part of Dib’s throne, while Dib’s short goblinoid sword is discovered to have some magic within it, of which the group has yet to discover. Gnangren remembers the scroll that he couldn’t decipher and passes it across to Quinn to look after.
Some cleanup and the party are on their way again and reach the trail that branches off the main road towards the small farming vilage of Levoca a couple of miles into the northern parts of the Margreve forest. As the party arrive the forest cover belies the fact it it not quite yet dusk and Toril seeks lodgings for a few days while he sets about his hunting…
